What is chronic fatigue syndrome/ME?

The Perrin technique in London.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, CFS/ME is a chronic illness caused by toxins building up in the cerebrospinal fluid which is the fluid that is found in the brain and spinal cord. CFS/ME is a severely debilitating disorder which can begin with tiredness and lethargy and eventually worsens until some patients can be left bedridden, devastating family life, social life and destroying one’s education or career. It can affect anyone; men, women, children, the elderly, office workers or athletes. This illness has been heavily misdiagnosed in the past but is slowly becoming more recognised, especially thanks to the research of Dr Raymond Perrin.

Dr Perrin has carried out many years of research into CFS/ME and has discovered that osteopathic techniques over a period of time can help reduce the symptoms of CFS/ME, this is now known as The Perrin technique in London. Speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy to find out more.

How does The Perrin Technique work?

The lymphatic system is involved in filtering the toxins from the cerebrospinal fluid and in CFS/ME it is thought that the lymphatic system is not working effectively, which leads to the build up of toxins in the body which causes the symptoms of the disease. By helping the lymphatic system work properly, the body can clear toxins and inflammatory chemicals of the immune system more effectively, almost like a detoxification of the body. By aiding this process of detoxifying the body this can result in an improvement in overall health. This is the concept which is involved in reducing the symptoms of CFS/ME by The Perrin Technique in London.

Dr Raymond Perrin isolated the key diagnostic factors to help identify CFS/ME. Certain physical signs, such as abnormal straightening of the spine and other spinal issues, are common in most CFS/ME sufferers, and this has helped identify which osteopathic techniques may be beneficial in reducing the symptoms of the disease. Craniosacral therapy, which is a gentle manipulation of the skull, is a widely used and effective technique involved in the Perrin Technique in London. By using the alternate application of cold and hot compresses and specialised massage techniques has been shown to encourage the lymphatic system to drain away the toxins which are involved in the symptoms of CFS/ME. It has been found that the action of alternately warming and cooling the affected area causes the blood vessels to dilate and contract, producing a pump action, which stimulates the flow of blood, accelerating the natural inflammatory process of the body and promoting faster repair of damaged tissue.
