What is CFS/ME?
CFS/ME is a mysterious illness that is difficult to diagnose and even more difficult to treat. There is no consensus amongst doctors and health professionals with regard to this debilitating disease and therefore it is easily misdiagnosed. For example most people were previously told that the symptoms were due to depression, however you will know when this is not the case as the symptoms of CFS/ME are life-changing and can dramatically affect all aspects of your life in a negative way.
CFS/ME is a multi systemic disease which affects the immune system, the endocrine system and the central nervous system, with devastating effects. It can occur at any age, affecting children as young as five years old all the way up to elderly people. Symptoms may begin with a headache and tiredness and you may think that you are just catching a cold or flu. This can then progress to the point where tiredness becomes extreme fatigue and even daily activities become very difficult. After a while patients are unable to carry out day to day activities any longer and even having a shower may require assistance. If at this stage treatment is not sought then eventually patients have been found to lose their mobility and become wheelchair-bound and eventually bedridden. This does not only affect the social aspects of your life, but it can put strain on personal relationships and ruin your career and finances. The effect that the disease has on the body can also result in further medical complications later on in life.
The Perrin technique in London has been developed to combat the signs and symptoms of CFS/ME. This is carried out using specialised massage techniques on the back, neck and chest to help stimulate fluid motion around these areas which are where the main organs are located. This is because CFS/ME is thought to be as a result of dysfunction of the lymphatic drainage system, which means that toxins cannot be drained effectively from the body and build up in the body's fluids and tissues instead. The building up of toxins results in the devastating effects of the disease. Therefore the technique works to help manually stimulate the lymphatic system and promote drainage of such toxins and waste products to help alleviate the symptoms. These massage techniques and other osteopathic methods will be carried out by one of our practitioners here at Rakhee Osteopathy. We are proud to announce that we are a double-award-winning practitioner of the Perrin technique in London awarded by Dr Raymond Perrin himself who was the founder of this technique and a pioneer in the field of CFS/ME. Dr Perrin has been researching this disease extensively since 1989 and introduced and established the Perrin technique in London. Further studies have been carried out on this technique and recently it has been trialled by the NHS.
