What is CFS/ME?
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a mysterious disease also known as CFS/ME, unheard of by most of the general public, and still debated upon by health professionals, which has a devastating impact on a person's life. It is a multi systemic disorder which can affect people from all walks of life; those with busy hectic careers, active lifestyles and sportsmen, to those who are living a relaxed life or enjoying their retirement. It can hit at any age, affecting those as young as 5 years old to the elderly. CFS/ME causes dysfunction of the neurological system, the immune system and the endocrine system and begins with symptoms of headache, tiredness and lethargy, leading to decreased stamina and extreme fatigue and exhaustion, and may progress until the patient is completely bedridden or unable to do things for themselves any longer.
CFS/ME is a difficult condition to diagnose and there is no agreed treatment process for this disease amongst health professionals. Lack of understanding of the disease can lead to patients being wrongly diagnosed with other issues such as depression and other mental health disorders instead.
The Perrin technique in London
Dr Raymond Perrin, a British osteopath and neuroscientist, has been investigating CFS/ME over the last few decades. In 1989 whilst treating a cyclist for back pain using osteopathic techniques the patient found that his symptoms of CFS/ME were also eliminated. This led to the introduction of the Perrin technique in London. This technique has been investigated, modified and improved continuously over the last 30 years. Here at Rakhee Osteopathy we are a double-award-winning practitioner of the Perrin technique in London, awarded by Dr Raymond Perrin himself.
The Perrin technique in London is based around the idea that CFS/ME is caused as a result of the build-up of toxins in the cerebrospinal fluid which surrounds the spine and brain. It is believed that the lymphatic system is impaired in CFS/ME patients, which means that the toxins are not being drained away effectively as they would be in a healthy person and as they build up in the system they result in the devastating effects that CFS/ME has on its patients.
The Perrin technique in London includes specialised massage techniques of the head, neck, back and chest area, which are carried out to encourage the fluid motion around the brain and the spine. These massage techniques are thought to help manually stimulate the lymphatic drainage system and promote better drainage of toxins which have built up in the cerebrospinal fluid. These techniques will be carried out by your expert practitioner of the Perrin technique here at Rakhee Osteopathy and we will also teach you simple massages that you can carry out by yourself at home to help encourage the recovery process. Speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy today and find out more about the Perrin technique and how you can combat the devastating symptoms of this debilitating disease and get your life back on track again very soon.
