Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) is a multi system disorder characterised by extreme fatigue or tiredness that does not go away with rest. It is one of the most complicated disorders of this modern era and has no definitive diagnoses or treatments in place. The symptoms vary, and every patient is different and has a range of risk factors. It is quite difficult to determine the cause of CFS/ME; however, research has been carried out to look for patterns of this disease.
Studies have shown that many cases of CFS/ME are first triggered by viral infections, including infection by the Epstein-Barr virus and glandular fever. In the same way, many patients who have been affected by COVID-19 found that weeks after a negative test result, they still experience symptoms of tiredness and fatigue very similar to that of CFS/ME.
Symptoms of CFS/ME
Symptoms that help identify CFS/ME include reduced ability to carry out daily activities for 6 months or longer due to fatigue. Secondly, symptoms tend to worsen with physical activity and exertion. Patients experience sleep disturbances, and this seems to be a prominent feature of CSF/ME. Moreover, there are cognitive issues such as the loss of memory, lack of concentration, problems with multi-tasking and general brain fog as described by many patients. Most patients with CFS/ME experience issues with coordination and mobility and can be bound to a wheelchair or bed.
The Perrin Technique
GPs and other healthcare professionals use a process of elimination to diagnose CFS/ME; however, this does not always work for every patient. If you are unsure about your diagnosis or believe that you may be affected by CFS/ME, speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy. We will go through a detailed medical history and discuss your main symptoms and their duration and severity to help provide a positive diagnosis for CFS/ME. We hope to help you understand your symptoms much better
Furthermore, we will use The Perrin Technique to help make our diagnosis and put together an individually tailored treatment plan for you. Whether you are suffering from CFS/ME or long COVID, The Perrin Technique can help you manage your symptoms more effectively so that you can begin to get your life back on track.
The Perrin Technique was discovered and established by Dr Raymond Perrin, an osteopath and neuroscientist who has carried out decades of research to help create a system that can be used in the diagnosis and management of CFS/ME.
The Perrin Technique is a manual osteopathic method designed to stimulate lymph flow around the brain and spinal cord, encouraging the removal of toxins from the body. We use this technique here at Rakhee Osteopathy to help manage CFS/ME, fibromyalgia and other post-viral fatigue syndromes, including long COVID.
