The importance of the lymphatic system and how this can be affected by chronic fatigue syndrome/ME

There are many factors which can lead to the buildup of harmful toxins in our body. The lymphatic system works to protect our body from toxins by removing them from our cells and tissues into our bloodstream which is then metabolised by the liver and filtered by the kidneys before being removed from the body through faeces or urine. This is an extremely important drainage and detoxification system without which we would become very unwell quickly.

When the body's drainage system is not functioning optimally, toxins can build up affecting the nervous system resulting in chronic fatigue syndrome, also known as CFS/ME. Lymphatic fluid can build up around certain areas of the brain, such as the hypothalamus and the basal ganglia, areas which are involved in pain suppression, sleep, emotions and general functioning of the body. When this area of the brain gets affected it can result in pain, poor cognitive function, neurological issues and more; thus resulting in the debilitating effects of chronic fatigue.

This is a disease which can affect people of all ages and walks of life. CFS/ME can begin with symptoms such as headaches and tiredness progressing to feelings of extreme lethargy. Often patients are unable to get out of bed or spend most of their days housebound. Not only can this have a devastating effect on your life, it can severely affect the lives of your loved ones, family, friends and career.

What is The Perrin technique?

Dr Perrin’s research into this complicated disease starting from the late 80s has achieved him a PhD in the field of chronic fatigue syndrome. His pioneering research and theories on CFS/ME led to the development of the Perrin technique in London.

Once known as a mystery amongst GPs and healthcare providers, for almost 3 decades now patients of CFS/ME have been undergoing the Perrin technique in London to try and help reduce the symptoms of this disease.

Specialised massage techniques used in the Perrin Technique in London have been developed to help increase the pump-action of the lymphatic system. This approach helps to drain the fluid more effectively and remove toxins from the nervous system and by doing so combat the symptoms of this devastating disease.

Here at Rakhee Osteopathy we are a double award winning practitioner of The Perrin Technique in London and we have almost 15 years of experience in treating patients with symptoms of CFS/ME by firstly providing a positive diagnosis of the disease and then creating individually tailored treatment plans using our knowledge and expertise which include massage techniques, lifestyle changes and advice on how to to carry out some of these massages at home by yourself, or with the help of a loved one or carer to help you on the road to recovery.
