The lymphatic system and how it works
The Perrin technique in London has been used in the treatment of CFS/ME since 1989. Over the years, much research has been carried out on this debilitating disease and it is thought to be as a result of inefficient functioning of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps the body get rid of toxins, waste and other unwanted chemicals and substances which may have built up in your system from the environment, such as pollutants, from your food, or as a result of an illness or infection. The lymphatic system is made up of thin vessels called lymph vessels and lymph nodes or glands. These glands can be found throughout the body including the neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis. The glands filter lymph, which is the excess fluid that leaks through the capillaries and into your body’s tissues, and returns it back into your circulation.
When the lymphatic system is not working properly toxins cannot be eliminated from the body effectively, and they build up in the glands, the blood and the tissues of the body, resulting in dysfunction and disease. In CFS/ME symptoms can begin with headaches, tiredness and lethargy. This then progresses to extreme fatigue where patients are no longer able to carry out their daily activities. Some patients experience cognitive dysfunction so there is a lack of concentration and loss of memory. If it is still left untreated then eventually patients are unable to do anything for themselves and may become bed bound.
