What is CFS/ME?
Chronic fatigue syndrome is a life-changing and debilitating disease also known as Myalgic Encephalitis or CFS/ME. It can occur in people of all ages ranging from very young children to the elderly, and can affect people of varying lifestyles. CFS/ME often begins with symptoms of tiredness and lethargy, and you may not feel very different to post recovery of a common virus or flu. Tiredness will progress to feelings of extreme fatigue and lack of energy or motivation. If allowed to progress this can eventually lead to loss of mobility and patients have been found to lose their ability to walk and become wheelchair bound or bedridden. CFS/ME has also been found to affect cognitive function and can result in confusion, lack of concentration and loss of memory. This can affect your social life dramatically, put a strain on personal relationships, affect your career and finances and pose further health complications in the future.
CFS/ME has no official agreed treatment plan in place for patients, because each patient presents different symptoms and is affected in different ways and in varying degrees of severity. If you are affected by CFS/ME, whether you have been given a formal diagnosis or you realise that the symptoms that you are presenting with correlate to those of this disease, it is important that you contact us here at Rakhee Osteopathy. The introduction of the Perrin technique in London
The Perrin technique in London was originally introduced in 1989 when Dr Raymond Perrin was treating a cyclist with lower back pain who was also presenting with symptoms of CFS/ME. Whilst undergoing osteopathic treatment for his back pain the cyclist found that his symptoms of CFS/ME were also improving at the same time. When he discussed this with Doctor Perrin, it led to investigations into the relationship between issues with the spine and the symptoms of CFS/ME.
Dr Perrin established that the symptoms of CFS/ME were occurring as a result of toxins building up in the cerebrospinal fluid which is found in the spine and around the brain. In a healthy human being this fluid is drained by the lymphatic system which takes away the toxins that are found in the fluid, and excretes them out of the body through the urinary system. In patients suffering from CFS/ME, it is thought that the lymphatic system is not functioning properly and there is an excessive build-up of toxins in the nervous system. This leads to the debilitating symptoms of the disease, because the central nervous system is the power station of the body, and if this is not functioning effectively then it will impact all other parts of the body as well. If you are affected by symptoms of CFS/ME then speak to us at Rakhee Osteopathy today and find out about the Perrin technique in London, what it involves and how it can help you get back on your feet and improve your life.
